From the time of Villon's condemnation
The death judge of François Villon - VILLIERS DE L'ISLE-ADAM, Jacques (c. 1420-1472), Prévôt de Paris (royal governor and judge) VILLIERS DE L'ISLE-ADAM, Jacques (c. 1420-1472), Prévôt de Paris (royal governor and judge). Document in his name, Paris, 11 December 1462. French manuscript on vellum, c. 13.5 x 32 cm, some foxing. Negotiation of property and legal disputes at the royal Poor Clares Abbey of Longchamp near Paris. The presiding judge in this dispute, Jacques de Villiers de L'Isle-Adam, sentenced François Villon (1431-after 1463), the most important poet of the late Middle Ages, to death at the same time - in November or December 1462, the exact date is not known. His experience in prison gave rise to the famous Ballade des pendus (Ballad of the Hanged Man). Villon appealed against the death sentence to the highest Parisian court, the Parlement, whereupon the judgement was overturned and Villon was sent into exile for ten years. The date of his death is unknown.
