Art & Project Bulletin: the catalogue/invitation is the artwork
Art & Project Bulletin (1970-74)
Amsterdam, Art & Project. 1970-74. 48 issues. 4to. (29,6 x 21 cm ? with minor variations). 4 (or sometimes 6 or 8) p. each. Folded as issued.
* Between 1968 and 1989 Geert van Beijeren and Adriaan van Ravesteijn published 156 issues of the art & project bulletin. The bulletin was generally a single A3 sheet folded in half and printed on both sides. It was sent free to a mailing list of approximately 400 to 500 individuals, including other artists, curators and gallerists. All 800 copies of each bulletin have been printed by ?drukkerij Delta?, The Hague, except numbers 20 and 21, which were printed in Tokyo, Japan. Since the bulletins often constituted "the exhibition" they were generally considered works of art in their own right. Each bulletin is folded and mailed to Belgian writer and art critic Freddy de Vree. This collection holds 48 issues: 20 Gilbert & George, 21 Yutaka Matsuzawa, 22 Douglas Huebler, 23 Keith Arnatt, (no 24 as it was never issued), 25 Emmy van Leersum & Gijs Bakker, 26 Hideto Yamazaki, 27 Mel Bochner, 28 Hanne Darboven, 29 Boezem, 30 Ian Wilson, 31 (8 p.) MoMA: ?From its inception, Art & Project, an Amsterdam gallery active between 1968 and 1989, supported an international group of artists associated with Conceptual art, both through the organization of exhibitions and the mailing of an information bulletin. The Art & Project Bulletin enabled the gallery to further develop artistic networks at home and abroad by allowing artists to create ?exhibitions by mail? in a format not fixed to a place or time.?
