Red morocco signed Cuzin, covers with central supralibros showing the arms of the Duke of Angoulême (1775-1844, the eldest son of Charles X), within double gilt-ruled frame with floral corner ornaments, richly gilt-ornamented and -titled spine with 5 raised bands, gilt-ruled sides, gilt-inside dentelles, a.e.g., marbled endpapers. * Illustrated with engraved frontispiece portrait of the author after a painting by Vivien, vignette on title, allegorical frontispice after B. Picart and 24 nice full-page plates after B. Picart, G.F.L. Debrie and L.F. Dubourg, and many head and tail vignettes. Enriched with a mounted proof print of the frontispiece. Title printed in red and black. Text pages printed within ornamental woodcut frame. With mounted in front of the vol. an autograph letter of Fenelon (3 p.), dated Tournai, 30/09/1705. Leather armorial bookplate ?Abbatia Janduriarum - Leon Rattier", i.e. the French bibliophile Victor Leon Rattier (1824-1902), owner of the Abbaye Notre-Dame-de-Jean d?Heurs. Corners and joints of binding very lightly rubbed, spine lightly discoloured. Some very light normal browning of the paper, some light offsetting of woodcut border on blank margin of the plates. Excellent copy of an impressive book on large paper, in a luxury binding in impeccable condition.
