De paradyso et felicitate Anime. (Also known as De Coelesti vita et de animarum immortalitate). Venice, Matteo Capcasa of Parma (di Codeca), for Girolamo Biondo, 19 December, 1494. 30,5 x 21,8 cm. Leather-backed boards of the early 19th century, with a title label, a bit worn at the edges. Flyleaves of thin blue Dutch paper with watermark 'J. Honig & Zoonen' (c.1800).
Title printed in red, with a phoenix printer's mark also in red. With printed decorated initials in woodcut and metalcut. Printed dedication to Borso d'Este, Marquess of Ferrara. 72 leaves executed in a regular Roman type.
A bookplate of Thomas South and one of the Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica (Ritman). Name of 'A.J. & M. Atwood' in ink on first flyleaf. Handwritten notes on title page and flyleaves, a.o. "Coll. compl./ B. Quaritch". Binding a bit worn and soiled. Inkstain on lower cover. Bookworm hole on title (in blank space).
Broad-margined theological work about Heaven and the immoraliy of the Spirit by the Minorite friar John of Ferrara, edited by Antonio de Cauchorio, (Medicinae Doctor), and printed by Matteo Capcasa for 'Hieronymo blongio' according to the colophon. With large metalcut initial 'N' and 3 large woodcut initials (B, C, and M) plus numerous nice smaller woodcut or metalcut initials. Attractive early title page printed in red with a list of the subjects contained in this book, adorned with a phoenix. Three Tabulae Capitulorum and a Registrum. Goff J313. IDL 2726.
