Cruydt-boeck, volghens sijne laetste verbeteringhe; met Bijvoeghsels achter elck capitel, uyt verscheyden cruydt-beschrijvers; item, in't laetste een beschrijvinghe vande Indiaensche ghewassen, meest getrocken uyt de schriften van Carolus Cluvius. Nu wederom van nieuws oversien ende verbetert.

Large folio. Contemporary blind-tooled vellum, spine ribbed, with ties. With fine engraved allegorical title page with garden perspective and portrait medallions of Dodoens and Clusius by Willem Isaaksz. Swanenburg, and ca. 1500 woodcut engravings in the text, and large printer's device on last leaf. (36),1492,(58) pp The most complete edition, Dodoens's influential herbal was first published in Dutch
in 1554; with old owner's inscription Geogino Mooy 1736. - Final Dutch edition of Dodoens' magnum opus printed by the Plantin-Moretus press with Clusius's extensive appendix of American and East Indian plants. Rembert Dodonaeus (1517-1585), Flemish physician and botanist, was one of the great Flemish botanists in the second half of the 16th century. In 1582 Dodonaeus was appointed professor of botany at the University of Leiden. In his Cruydt- boeck, Dodoens for the first time classified the plants according to their characteristics.
